George’s Quay

The 2019 George’s Quay upgrade, led by KMD Architects, represents a strategic shift from ‘transit corridor’ to a high-quality social space. The design intentionally moves away from cold, commercial finishes. The Omos street furniture includes generous timber benches, providing a comfortable spot for passersby to sit and linger. Sculptural planters in weathered Corten steel provide a rich, earthy patina that echoes Dublin’s maritime and industrial heritage, while aging gracefully against the elements.

By widening and decluttering the streetscape, the team created a pedestrian-prioritized plaza, that feels open, safe and permeable. This ‘urban lung’ introduces native greenery into a dense business district, offering a precious space where people can socialize or rest.
